Ride 2 Recovery an Invigorating Therapy for Some Veterans

Ride 2 Recovery is an organization focused on helping disabled veterans connect with one another by way of bicycle rides spanning hundreds of miles. These "challenges" are meant to help their recovery and/or rehabilitation process.

Because of the extreme nature of the challenges, they build camaraderie among participants like few other things. Much of the camaraderie and teamwork is rooted in the incredible amount of encouragement the participants provide for each other.

The Ride 2 Recovery challenges have been ongoing for years. In that time, these rides have spanned multiple states. Currently, the organization is undertaking the Normandy Challenge, which spans 240 miles over 6 days. More than 100 wounded warriors will participate in Rise 2 Recovery's first international ride.

The Normandy Challenge will bring participants past multiple WW II historical sites. Riders will be able to stop and visit some of the sites along the route alongside veterans who were in combat at those sites. Finally, the riders will join the Tour De France's Stage 6 in Liseux.

Riders report heightened self-esteem and confidence, which is not surprising and helps injured veterans recover on a different level. Beyond seeing counselors for mental conditions, these challenges help because all the participants find they can talk to one another and help each other through their recoveries, while they take what they need for their own recovery.
