Screening Declines Diagnosis and Death from Colorectal Cancer

Colon cancer or the treatment of any kind of cancer, may lead an individual to seek long-term disability benefits. When you're not able to work due to a severe medical condition, then disability benefits can help to offset your lost income.

According to a report from CNN Health, a decline in diagnosis and death from colorectal cancer is attributed to more screening. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates in a new study that cases from colon cancer have decreased by 3.4% from 2003 to 2007.

In fact, each year sees a decrease in diagnosis of colorectal cancer of about 66,000. Additionally, the number of those dying as a result of colon cancer is also declining by about 3% each year.

Since colon cancer screening proves to save lives, more and more people in the United States are undergoing it. This is important since colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in men and women combined, according to the American Cancer Society. They estimate approximately 49,380 deaths will occur this year as a result of the cancer.

If you have questions concerning your eligibility for long-term disability benefits, you should seek legal counsel. A Deerfield Beach long-term disability attorney can help.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
