Should it matter that late Marine sergeant Rafael Peralta was shot several times prior to valiently deciding to absorb the blast of an enemy grenade with his body? No, is my answer.
In my opinion, Sgt. Peralta reacted with extreme bravery and selflessness.
Did Sgt. Peralta know if he would have survived being shot? No one will ever know, but what we do know is that he saved the lives of his comrades in Iraq by throwing his body on the grenade.
Was Sgt. Peralta's death downplayed by receiving the Navy Cross? Do you feel this young man deserved the nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor?
