Despite having the coverage, you may still be denied long-term disability benefits even if you suffer from a heart condition that requires you to take extensive time away from work.
In a report from
Health Day,
new research finds a significant drop in the number of heart bypass surgeries being performed in the U.S. In fact, they have dropped by as much as 40% between the years 2001 and 2008.
Some of the reasons for this could be patients undergoing alternative procedures such as balloon angioplasty, fewer people smoking (which reduces rates of coronary artery disease), and better treatment of risk factors that lead to
coronary heart disease.
Some of the
risk factors for coronary artery disease include: ·
diabetes; ·
high blood pressure; and
·
elevated cholesterol levels. On the other hand, there is the possibility that fewer patients are being referred for heart bypass surgery. This could mean that some patients aren't receiving the proper type of treatment.
