Smokers More Likely to Struggle with Memory Loss

In a report from Health News, new research demonstrates that smokers are more likely to struggle with memory loss. When you have been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that requires time off from work in order to heal and recover, you could be entitled to long-term disability benefits.

If smokers didn't already have enough reasons to quit, now a new one has emerged. Researchers from the Northumbria University in England found that when smokers quit, they regained memory functions.

In fact, those who had stopped smoking for 2.5 years had a score on memory tests that was 25% better than those who were still smoking. Non-smokers had scores that were 37% higher, in comparison to smokers.

The findings of this research appear to indicate that cognitive functioning may be improved for those who don't light up. Previous studies have shown that those who quit find it easier to learn things; however, this is the first one to link memory functioning to smoking.

The details of this research will be included in an upcoming issue of Drug and Alcohol Dependence.

When you have been denied disability benefits or you need help in applying for them, then you should seek legal counsel. A Miami-Dade County long-term disability lawyer is available to assist you with your claim.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
