Social Security Administration Releases Open Government Plan

In an effort to demonstrate the value of open government principles, the Social Security Administration has released its Open Government plan
. Social Security Administration states that this plan reflects the agency's commitment to:

  • Increase transparency
  • Expand opportunities for citizen participation and collaboration
  • Make open government more sustainable at Social Security

The Open Government plan highlights 3 components:

  • Spanish-Language Retirement Estimator (non-English interactive online application)
  • Online Service Enhancement (service-channeling tool that makes it easier to find information and services, along with scheduling appointments on SSA's website)
  • Online Life-Expectancy Calculator (helps assist with retirement planning)

The hope is that this plan will improve Social Security services and help to break down the barrier that exists between the government and the people. If you are applying for Social Security disability benefits, this service can help you find the information you need. With more and more people using the Internet to find information about disability benefits, the intention is to make the process of applying for Social Security much smoother.

As helpful as the Open Government plan hopes to be, the process of applying for benefits remains complicated. If you are suffering from a serious illness or injury and find yourself disabled, you may need the expertise of an experienced Social Security disability attorney. With most Social Security claims being denied a specialized legal expert can assist you with the process.

If you or your loved is suffering from a severe physical or mental disability, you should contact a Social Security Disability lawyer immediately to learn about your rights and determine eligibility. The process of securing Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income benefits can be difficult and overwhelming. Don't go it alone! The attorneys at LaVan & Neidenberg, located in Atlanta, Georgia, understand the inner workings of the Social Security Administration and will help you navigate the system.
