Social Security Disability Hearing Backlogs Slowly Shrinking

Despite the fact that there has been a rise in the number of applicants for Social Security disability benefits in the last several years, there may be some signs of reduction to the long wait times experienced by many disability applicants.

Docuticker reports the Social Security hearing backlog is now at the lowest it has been in years. There are 697,437 pending cases - the lowest number since June 2005.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has slowly been finding ways to increase the number of hearings processed each month, which has led to a decrease in the backlog. The SSA says that it has hired more administrative law judges and opened some new SSA offices and 14 more offices are in the works for the near future.
