Some Conditions Make Applying for Disability Difficult

Some people, particularly those without a disability, may assume that applying for Social Security disability benefits is easy. They might look at it as free money from the government every month. However, if you have ever started the process without a lawyer, you know firsthand how frustrating and disheartening the process can be.

In fact, plenty of people who deserve benefits may never get them. Some will be rejected due to lack of evidence, but many others will never apply just because they have heard how much work it is. If you have a disability that makes it difficult to not only work, but to also stay awake, alert, or pain-free long enough to fill out the online application, you might never get through the entire process.

While a lawyer can definitely help you through the procedure, even getting around to hiring one is difficult for some people. The following are some issues that you or other disabled applicants might face while applying for disability payments:

  • Chronic pain does not always show up on certain tests, so those suffering from it may have trouble proving their condition
  • Fatigue and extreme pain may prevent many from even completing the online application or obtaining medical records
  • Due to income limits, many people have to quit their job before they apply, though acceptance is not guaranteed

There are solutions to nearly every problem you might encounter when applying for disability payments. Having a lawyer, doing some research, and planning ahead may solve many issues. For example, you can plan to save as much money as possible before quitting your job so that you have enough to last you while waiting to hear back from the SSA. If you have questions relating to your specific case, such as queries about medical documents, you can ask your lawyer.

If you or your loved one are suffering from a severe physical or mental disability, you should contact a Social Security Disability lawyer immediately to learn about your rights and determine eligibility. I found some of what was said in your article true in regards to some of the issues people face when applying for Social Security Disability. I do know of several people though that are still working and was approved because their income is under the Substantial gainful activity amount. I know that a lot of people do not know about the SGA. Yes, it's harder to get approved while still working but not impossible, depending on the disability.
