SSA Adds 13 New Conditions to Compassionate Allowances Program

According to a press release from Social Security Administration (SSA), 13 new conditions have been added to the Compassionate Allowances Program. When you are suffering from a severe disability, then you may be entitled to receive Social Security disability benefits.

The Compassionate Allowances Program is designed to help claimants with certain conditions to begin receiving disability benefits within a matter of days, instead of the usual wait, which can be months or even years.

New Conditions Under Compassionate Allowances Program

Up until now, there have been 100 conditions under this program. The new conditions will be effective in Dec. 2011.

  • malignant multiple sclerosis;
  • pulmonary Kaposi sarcoma;
  • multicentric castleman disease;
  • multiple system atrophy;
  • ALS/Parkinsonism dementia complex;
  • Paraneoplastic Pemphigus;
  • primary effusion Lymphoma;
  • Angelman Syndrome
  • Lewy Body Dementia;
  • Lowe Syndrome;
  • Corticobasal Degeneration; and
  • 2 types of Lymphoma.

While much progress has been made in streamlining the process, SSA recognizes that even more needs to be done with the increase in applicants, which is why a small grant program has been instituted for graduate students to help improve the disability claims process.

You should speak with a Deerfield Beach Social Security disability lawyer if you have questions concerning eligibility for disability benefits or if your claim was denied.
