SSA error leaves woman with $1 disability payment

She expected a deposit of $721 in her account. When she tried to access it, she found only a $1. There was no notice that her benefits had been rescinded, nor a notice that she had ever received an overpayment that had to be paid back. It appears that it was simply a mistake.

When the SSA was contacted, officials said to call Medicare, but there was nothing on their end that would cause the issue, either. It is currently being investigated by the SSA.

There is no explanation as of yet that could clarify the error. While mistakes do happen, it unfortunately hindered the victim financially for this month. The good news is that a local church has stepped in to provide her with some food while the case is resolved.
