The Social Security Administration (SSA) is offering the public an opportunity to weigh in on some serious issues that impact the general public, and disabled individuals in particular. The subject-at-hand is the SSA's method for determining whether someone with a drug or alcohol addiction should receive Social Security disability benefits.
According to CCH, the SSA is seeking opinions on its current method of deciding whether someone is disabled in cases where alcohol or drugs may be a contributing factor to the disability. While the SSA wants to be cautious about providing monthly payments to people who use drugs and alcohol, the agency is making some effort to recognize that not all addiction situations are cut-and-dried.
