Study Finds Sepsis with Atrial Fibrillation Makes a Recipe for Stroke and Death

In a report from ScienceDaily, patients who are hospitalized for severe sepsis (blood infection) and develop atrial fibrillation (heart rhythm disorder) are at an increased risk of stroke and death. When a severe heart condition results in lengthy treatment and recovery, then you could qualify to receive long-term disability benefits.

For patients who become critically ill, atrial fibrillation is one of the more common types of conditions to develop. A new study shows that between 6% and 20% of patients who have severe sepsis will also develop atrial fibrillation.

Some of the risk factors linked to the development of atrial fibrillation when hospitalized for severe sepsis include:

  • history of heart, organ, respiratory and renal failure;
  • history of cancer and stroke;
  • older in age; and
  • Caucasian males.

The death rate is significantly higher for those who have severe sepsis and develop atrial fibrillation. It occurs in 56% of patients, compared to 39% of those who don’t develop this heart rhythm disorder.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your eligibility for Social Security disability benefits, you should speak immediately with a
Miami Beach disability lawyer. A lawyer can assist you with the claims process, including appealing a claim that has been denied.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you’ve been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
