The AIDS epidemic is still very much alive in the U.S.

Although the HIV and AIDS epidemic has been more of a world topic in recent years, it is an epidemic that continues to thrive in our country.   

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention thrust us back into reality when it released new numbers for people infected with the virus in the U.S. 

It reports that "About 56,300 people are now thought to be infected with HIV annually—a startling 40 percent jump from the government's previous estimate of 40,000."
