The Social Security Administration Makes Changes to Fast-Track Process

The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides Social Security disability benefits to individuals who meet their very specific qualifications. Applying for benefits is just the first step of many. Consulting with an attorney should be your next step.

The SSA announced new changes in October to the fast-track process, also known as the Quick Disability Determination process.
This application process is available to applicants who suffer from severe conditions, requiring less investigation from SSA.

Medical reviews have always been a requirement even in the fast-track process. Now only some cases will require medical reviews while others may be approved for benefits without having one done.

Individuals who suffer from severe disabilities can forego the time-consuming process of filling out paperwork and waiting for approval. This will also free up their medical teams to handle the more complicated cases.

The hope is that those applicants with severe disabilities will find their approval time significantly reduced.

The fast track process is just one component to the Social Security system. Others who are applying for benefits may find it a more difficult process to go through. Many individuals also find that they are initially denied, requiring them to go through an appeals process.

A Social Security disability attorney can assist you with the filing of your claim to make your initial application more likely to be accepted. Additionally, an attorney can help you if you have been denied benefits.

When you are interviewing Social Security Disability attorneys ask critical questions, like: how many Social Security Disability hearings do you have per month; do you understand the SSA's POMS (the manual Social Security employees use to process claims); and, do you understand the date last insured and how it affects my disability onset date?
