The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides
Social Security disability benefits to individuals who are disabled and unable to work and who can provide extensive evidence of their disabling condition. If you meet the criteria included on the SSA's listing of impairments, you may be entitled to receive disability benefits.
According to a report from the
Doctor's Lounge,
a new study shows that dangerous blood clots may be linked to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In fact,
those with IBD may be twice as likely to develop a blood clot in the lungs or legs, known as venous thromboembolism (VTE).
VTE also includes superior sagittal sinus thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and affects approximately 2 in every 1,000 individuals every year.
IBD is a disease that can cause severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss and other complications. It includes conditions such as ulcerative colitis and
Crohn's disease.
In this study researchers also factored in risk factors for VTE which includes those have undergone surgery, suffered a broken bone, or have cancer. Despite these risk factors, those with IBD were at a greater risk of developing a blood clot.
Adding into the study additional risk factors such as congestive heart failure, hormone replacement therapy, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and antipsychotic drugs, those with IBD continued to have an 80% higher risk of developing VTE.Consulting with a Social Security disability attorney should be your next step if you suffer from a severe mental or physical condition that has resulted in permanent disability.
