Top 5 Advances in Cancer Care for 2011

In a report from the Doctors Lounge, there have been some important advances in cancer care for the year 2011. Cancer could lead to an individual being unable to work for several months, which may qualify them for long-term disability benefits.

According to the
American Society of Clinical Oncology, the following are the top 5 advances in cancer care for 2011:

  • Aromasin - an inhibitor, was found to reduce the risk of breast cancer, becoming a treatment option that can help prevent breast tumors for postmenopausal women at a higher risk;
  • Zelboraf - a trial drug, improved survival in advanced melanoma patients, in comparison to chemotherapy;
  • Yervoy - was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which in combination with chemotherapy can extend life by 2 months for those with metastatic melanoma;
  • CT scans - screening trial found that 3 annual low-dose CT scans reduced the risk of lung cancer death by 20%, in comparison to those who undergo 3 yearly chest x-rays; and
  • Xalkori - FDA approved for individuals with non-small-cell lung cancer, with a specific gene mutation, which had significant rates of success.

When you’ve been diagnosed with cancer and are unable to work, you should consult with a South Florida disability attorney. Long-term disability benefits could help offset your lost income.

Long-term disability benefits may be available
to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don’t make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you’ve been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S! South Florida disability attorney today – 1-888-234-5758.
