



Veterans who worked on the now closed Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, are concerned that exposure to toxic waste may have serious health effects, including cancer.
MCAS El Toro closed in 1999 after 56 years in operation. A toxic plume of trichloroethylene (TCE) was discovered on the base in 1985 and an investigation revealed that the plume originated under aircraft hangars. It is suspected that cleansers used to degrease aircraft parts may have leaked into base wells from which water could have been used in swimming pools and irrigation.
