Treating Drug-Resistant Hypertension

A cardiovascular condition can lead to an individual filing for long-term disability benefits if the illness and required treatment requires them to take extended time off from work. Lost wages during this time may be covered with long-term disability benefits.

Hypertension is a potentially very serious medical condition. When high blood pressure is not controlled, it can lead to additional complications. While many patients are able to control their blood pressure with medication, some are not able to. According to a report from MSN Health, those with drug-resistant hypertension may benefit from nerve block treatment.

In a new study it was found that nerve block treatment-a procedure where nerve signals between the brain and kidneys are interrupted-can help bring blood pressure back to normal. This early research is found to be effective in 39% of the patients.

Several months later, about half of the patients in the study had measurable improvement while 39% of the patients were able to get their blood pressure back to proper levels.

So far the study has shown minimal complications; however there are plans to conduct larger independent trials. Additionally, patients who participated in the study will still need to be followed up on.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration have plans for clinical trials of the procedure to be done using interventional radiologists. This could prove to be good news for those who have hypertension that is difficult to treat.

You should consult with Broward County long term disability attorneys if you have questions concerning your eligibility for disability benefits.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
