Triglycerides Can Be Significantly Reduced with Lifestyle Changes

When a cardiovascular disease or any other severe type of health problem causes you to be unable to work for a long period of time, you may be entitled to receive long-term disability benefits.

In a report from the Doctor's Lounge, triglyceride levels can be significantly reduced with lifestyle changes. This is important with approximately 31% of adults in the U.S. having elevated levels.

The American Heart Association released a statement April 18 extolling on the benefits of reducing triglyceride levels. They report that by replacing unhealthy saturated fats with healthy unsaturated fats, losing weight and maintaining an active lifestyle, these levels could be reduced by as much as 20 to 50%.

Some of the specific recommendations by the American Heart Association include limiting the following:

  • alcohol use;
  • fructose (to less than 50 to 100 grams per day);
  • trans fat (to less than 1% of total calories); and
  • sugar (to less than 5 to 10% of calories consumed or 100 calories per day for women and 150 calories per day for men).

Furthermore they recommend eating a diet with lots of vegetables and fruit, along with moderate to intense physical activity for a minimum of 150 minutes each week.

If you have questions concerning your eligibility for benefits, you should immediately consult with a Georgia long-term disability attorney.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve. When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
