Troops To Energy Jobs Pilot Program Launching

March 22, 2011 - A new pilot program will create what will likely amount to thousands of employment opportunities for military veterans within the energy industry. The program is going to span 2 years and is going to be incorporated through 5 different electric and natural gas utilities across the country.

The program is known as "Troops to Energy Jobs," and will serve as a transitional program in which veterans move from their military life into civilian careers within the energy industry. The program not only provides the connection between the veteran and the potential employer, it also provides employment education and training to make the veteran more employable in the energy field. This is the first pilot program of its kind to be used in the energy field.

Veterans are being targeted for employment in the field because of the fields' similarities to the military in expectations. For instance, both are very focused on safety, civic mindedness, and demand discipline in order to be well-trained. It is believed this initiative will serve the future of the energy sector well by developing a solid base of incoming and well-trained employees.

It is projected approximately 10,000 new positions will likely develop in the industry within the next 4 years spanning multiple conditions. By the end of 2020, there may be more than 250,000 new positions. Veterans provide the best pool of applicants from which to build a strong base for the energy industry.
