Ultrasound May Detect Risk of Stroke for Those with Clogged Neck Arteries

According to a report from Health Day, an ultrasound may be able to detect the risk of stroke for those with clogged neck arteries. When a stroke leads to disability, then you could be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

A new study suggests that an ultrasound could identify those at risk for a stroke, since not all patients who have clogged neck arteries display symptoms of a stroke. This condition is known as asymptomatic carotid stenosis and could be deadly.

While only a small number of patients with clogged neck arteries are at risk for a stroke, there should be a way to determine those who are at the highest risk. When the risk is high then the patient may need to undergo endarterectomy, which is a type of surgery that removes the plaque built up in the neck arteries.

However, since this surgical procedure carries serious risks, doctors would benefit from knowing which patients are truly in need of it. A simple ultrasound may help in determining this.

Researchers also believe that an ultrasound would be beneficial to those who have heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Your next step should be to speak with a Hallendale Social Security disability lawyer if you have questions concerning eligibility for benefits.
