VA Aid & Attendance Pension Rates Raised for Disabled Veterans and Spouses

For those disabled veterans and their surviving spouses who require regular assistance from a caregiver there are new benefit rate increases that can help your family.

After a 2-year freeze on Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefit increases, the VA Aid and Attendance Pension rates have been raised for 2012 to help cover the costs of in-home attendant care. The new rates are as follows:
  • $1,704/month for a single veteran ($60 increase);
  • $1,094/month for the surviving spouse of a veteran ($38 increase); and
  • $2,020 for a veteran plus one dependent ($71 increase).
These veterans benefits are available for veterans and their spouses or dependents who require another’s assistance with daily care, such as bathing, meal preparation, dressing, and personal hygiene. It also covers blind individuals and those in a nursing home due to mental or physical impairment. Those in assisted living facilities may also be covered.

Veterans’ pension benefits are one of the many types of benefits available to qualified veterans through the VA. Many veterans who qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance Pension may also be eligible for veterans’ disability benefits.
