The
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is constantly evolving and reforming ways to communicate with veterans and
veterans with disabilities to provide the best possible information related to their rightful health care and benefits. Now that
over 150 VA medical centers are on Facebook, veterans and their family members can do more than just get information on a local level; they can engage and interact, according to an article published in
MarketWatch.
The more transparent the VA becomes, the more comfortable people are engaging its services. The VA launched their first VA Facebook page in 2008 and now there are 152 in existence.
Additionally, the VA utilizes multiple forms of social media to communicate, which include:
- · 64 Twitter feeds;
- · a Flickr page;
- · a blog entitled VAntage Point; and
- · a YouTube channel.
The big push to be involved in social media is tied to the younger
modern age of veterans. There are thousands of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan using social media, so it has become the VA’s mission to make sure they are where the veterans are, so it can be easily accessed.
The
VA believes many veterans will be more trusting if the information they receive is relatable on a local level. The VA’s
next step is to bring a separate Twitter feed to every local VA medical center to further expand local presence.
If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg is ready to help. To learn if you are entitled to certain programs and benefits
