Over the last couple of years the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has become very aware of an increased need for services for female veterans. Which services are most needed, and how the VA can best improve their health care for female veterans, however, the VA has decided to leave up to the female veterans themselves.
The VA has undertaken a "major initiative" to establish a connection with female veterans. The VA wants that connection because they are asking for their ideas on how to improve upon the services and health care the VA currently provides for female veterans. The increasing demand for such services is forcing the VA to take such proactive steps.
In order to gather the information they need, the VA established a national call center at the VA's Health Resource Center (HRC). Representatives are calling female veterans across the country who have signed up for VA health care but have not yet utilized it.
Female veterans are being asked two things: ·
to share their experiences in dealing with the VA; and
·
suggestions for enhancements the VA can use to provide the best possible care. About 8% of all veterans are female, and those females use 6% of all VA health care services. Their numbers will continue to grow as the amount of female veterans is rapidly growing.
