VA Report Focuses on Improving Healthcare for Desert Storm Veterans

According to an article in Market Watch, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Sec. Eric Shinseki announced the issuing of a report that will layout how the VA plans to handle the concerns of Desert Storm veterans with disabilities from the Gulf War Syndrome.

The report was compiled by the VA's Gulf War Illnesses Task Force to provide a "roadmap" for how the VA plans to care for the veterans of the Gulf War. This care will involve implementing enhancements in treatments, care, and services. The lessons taken from the report will then be applied to improving care for veterans of different generations, according to Sec. Shinseki.

The report focuses on 7 specific areas of healthcare service the VA provides for Desert Storm veterans
. The task force has spent the last year studying the "roadmap" last year's report outlined, and offered improvements with this years' report. Those improvements will become part of the VA's "culture and operations."

One of the main improvements offered with this year's report is modifying the "clinical care models" that are currently being used to deliver healthcare to Desert Storm veterans.
The VA is looking for feedback on the report so that there's a better understanding of what healthcare needs of Desert Storm veterans need to be met.
