Verizon Awards $55,000 to Help Individuals with Disabilities

There are a number of non-profit agencies that help individuals with disabilities, in addition to the government-funded programs that are available, such as Social Security disability. If you are disabled and unable to work, Social Security disability benefits may be available to you.

The Verizon Foundation has recently awarded $55,000 to 5 non-profit agencies in Massachusetts that are dedicated to improving accessibility to disabled individuals.

The agencies to receive the $55,000 include:

• New England Homes for the Deaf;
• Children's Hospital;
• National Braille Press;
• Lowell Association for the Blind; and
• Easter Seals.

Verizon has given $300,000 over the past 4 years in assistive technology grants. Assistive technology has enabled many individuals with disabilities to do things they never thought they could.

In addition, Verizon has a Center for Customers with Disabilities that takes more than 350,000 calls every year. Customers who have a range of disabilities receive customer support from representatives are able to help them with their technology needs.

The Verizon Foundation continues to do their part in providing support and services to individuals with disabilities across the United States, in order to help improve their quality of life.
