Veteran-owned small businesses can benefit this summer at that
2012 National Veteran Small Business Conference and Expo being held from June 25-29 in Detroit.
The
Cabo Center is hosting the 3-day expo, which focuses on promoting small business development by veterans and includes a veterans’ hiring fair. The event was last held in New Orleans in 2011 with an estimated 5,000 attendees – and this year the coordinators expect an increase of about 1,000 veterans, business owners, and federal employees.
For veterans looking to start their own small business this can be a great opportunity to learn about unique resources available to veterans for business development. There will also be the
opportunity to learn about the VetGovPartner online system that helps facilitate networking and identifying veteran-owned businesses for collaboration.
On the employment end, the Detroit Hiring Fair will also take place at the expo,
giving veterans looking for employment the opportunity to take advantage of career counseling, job search classes, and participate in on-the-spot interviews. Several federal agencies and private sector businesses will be attending to screen potential veteran employees.
Registration for the conference is now open.
Finding employment can be difficult, especially for disabled veterans who may have limited work abilities.
There are also many resources available through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to help disabled veterans find work, develop a business, and receive vocational training.
If you are a disabled veteran who has been denied disability compensation or have not yet applied for benefits from the VA, a South Florida disability attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg is ready to help. To learn if you are entitled to certain programs and benefits
