A recent article in The United Press International, highlighted how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) plans on bringing telemedicine to those in need, such as veterans with disabilities. Telemedicine will now be used to treat veterans for:
This is all being made possible through an award given from the VA Innovation Initiative (VAi2) Industry Innovation Competition and in conjunction with American Well. Through that award and partnership, the VA can bring telehealth care to veterans at more convenient locations, such as their homes or workplaces.
The American Well online care system can allow the VA to make necessary care more available to those in need. For those veterans in remote locations or who have difficulty getting around for any reason, VA health care may now be much more effective and convenient.
This means more than just online appointments with their local health care provider. Veterans may also be able to use the internet to hold meetings with "multi-level disciplinary care teams." The chat lines are secure, so the possibility of health information leaking is very low.
Using telehealth means distance and mobility may no longer be burdens for veterans who need health care. In addition, it can save veterans from giving up time at work or time spent with families.
