April 9, 2010 - The Veterans' Employment and Training Service is hosting a $2 million grant competition through the Veteran's Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) to help veterans get jobs; not just jobs but green jobs. The grant will be used to aid those veterans eligible for the help by supplying:
VWIP grants help veterans reintegrate into significant employment in the private sector as well as look at the problems eligible veterans are facing in reentering the work force. This is all done through the scope of finding employment for veterans within the field of renewable and sustainable energy.
Priority will be given to labor force development plans focusing on coupling specific target populations with training programs and goal oriented careers that will set up veterans for certain careers. In particular, veterans must be prepared for a profession in any of the Workforce Investment Act's defined careers. Those 7 careers are:
If the list above does not include an industry the applicant is specifically involved with, the applicant can make a substitutive suggestion. The strategy must spotlight an employment and training program that is in some way related to the expansion and development of an up-and-coming green industry that in some way not only cleans but improves the environment.
