Veterans Groups Give Federal Supercommittee Guide for VA Budget Cuts

The impending budget cuts from the federal supercommittee are weighing heavily on everyone as everyone expects there to be cuts from their budgets in one form or another. In anticipation of budget cuts, various veterans groups have approached the lawmakers that comprise on the supercommittee and asked them to not only protect programs for veterans with disabilities, but to strengthen them along with other veterans programs, according to an article on NewsMax.com.

Lawmakers were presented with a "guide for policymakers."
The guide is supposed to help the supercommittee design the budgets for the next 2 years with the goal of expanding and improving Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-provided healthcare. The veterans groups that assembled the guide include:

  • Disabled Veterans;
  • AMVETS;
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
  • Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Better "delivery" and reformation of existing VA programs are specific focuses of the guide. At the same time, it calls for improved transitional employment training for veterans returning to civilian life. Above everything else, however, the guide stressed the importance of the supercommittee to respect VA-administered healthcare and medical benefits.

Soldiers locked in battle on behalf of this country need to know that when they return they can count on VA healthcare to "restore them" and their injuries.
