The Pensacola News Journal recently reported on high marks given to the Pensacola Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Biloxi Medical Center. The Joint Commission recognized the center for the efforts it made to heighten the level of medical care provided to those veterans with pneumonia during the 2010 calendar year, which included veterans with disabilities.
The Biloxi Hospital provides outpatient care through their "super clinic." The Joint Commission provides accreditation to all VA medical centers and hospitals. Their familiarity with the hospitals' operations allows them to distinguish those providing care above and beyond expectations.
The Joint Commission uses varying criteria to determine those medical centers worthy of receiving a top rating. "Evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes" are generally the markers against which the hospital and medical centers are rated, according to the VA guidelines.
VA Sec. Eric Shinseki celebrates every medical center and hospital on the list as being recognized by the Joint Commission places that facility "among the top tiers [of health care] in the country." Those veterans living in the panhandle area have been assured the care they receive from the Pensacola Biloxi hospital is among the best in the country.
The Joint Commission recognized 405 medical facilities across the country "for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance" for the 2010 calendar year. This is roughly 14% of all hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission that "report core measure performance data."
