Vets Claim Agent Orange Is Buried At Camp Carroll, South Korea

Three veterans recently admitted they aided in burying Agent Orange at Camp Carroll, South Korea while stationed there in the 1970s. U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) launched an immediate investigation into the claim, and will likely work in a joint effort with South Korean officials to determine the veracity of the claims.

One of the veterans making the claim stated he buried the Agent Orange under orders in 1978. He detailed how he was told to dig a ditch almost as long as a city block. The 55-gallon drums of Agent Orange were then placed in the ditch. He noted some of the drums were labeled, "Province of Vietnam, Compound Orange."

The toxicity of Agent Orange
, of which the army used millions of gallons in Vietnam, has led the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to launch multiple research studies to examine health effects due to exposure. The VA recognizes multiple cancers and diseases as presumptively caused by such exposure.

Agent Orange disposal has been a hot-button issue with many veterans groups. Improper disposal, of which there is an unfortunate history, can result in contamination of surrounding resources, such as water sources. These three veterans also detailed how the Agent Orange was leaking out of the barrels as they buried them and are now complaining of health problems.
