Virginia Woman Killed Along Interstate 10

A Virginia woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured after crashing into scraps of a tire that was caused when a nearby pickup truck blew a tire along Interstate 10, police report.

The accident happened on Interstate 10 at mile marker 285, which is about two miles east of U. S. 129 in Suwannee County. The Florida Highway Patrol has determined that the fatal incident began when the left front tire of a 2003 Ford F250 pick up blew out while being the truck was being driven west in the right lane by Timothy Welty, 60, of Kerrville, Texas. Welty lost control of the Ford, which veered left and hit the Chevrolet. The car was knocked in the eastbound travel lanes of the freeway where it hit a Mack Semi. Welty and Gates were not injured. Shirley Ricks was killed in the accident and Joseph Ricks was taken to Shands at the University of Florida with serious injuries.
