Vitamin D Not Found to Benefit Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

According to the Doctor’s Lounge, vitamin D is not found to benefit patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). If you are not able to work because of your severe medical condition, you could be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

The 2 main types of COPD are chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Both can make breathing difficult. With a lack of vitamin D, individuals can become susceptible to conditions such as these, which would make Vitamin D supplements seem logical; however, a new study finds that the benefits are limited on most patients.

Vitamin D has the reputation of fighting inflammation, an underlying problem in this condition, but the supplements were not found to reduce inflammation and infections, nor reduce hospitalizations
caused by complications. The only patients that were really impacted were those with extremely low levels of vitamin D. They had some benefits in the symptoms not being exacerbated.

COPD can become debilitating. If this or any other severe health condition has caused you to suffer limitations in your ability to complete daily tasks or work, then you may be entitled to disability benefits. Seek advice from a Miami Beach Social Security disability attorney to learn what your rights are.
