If you are suffering from a debilitating disease and can no longer work, you may be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.
According to a report from
U.S. News Health,
the diagnosis of chronic disease may depend on a person's geographic location. Specifically, there may be a connection between where Medicare patients live and the likelihood that their disease will receive a diagnosis. This may mean that some individuals are not receiving the type of care that is necessary.
The study suggested that individuals who live in areas that are more likely to have higher incidences of diagnosis' given may be less likely to suffer premature death from chronic conditions like kidney failure and coronary artery disease.
The specific chronic conditions that were evaluated in the study included:
- dementia;
- cancer;
- chronic renal failure;
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;
- diabetes (with end-organ disease);
- coronary artery disease;
- severe liver disease;
- congestive heart failure; and
- peripheral artery disease.
As was expected, the study also found that the more chronic conditions an individual suffered from, the increased chances of death. The connection between location and diagnosis likely has to do with the level of healthcare provided in that particular region.
If you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition that has left you permanently disabled, consulting with a
Social Security disability attorney should be your next step to determine eligibility.
