Women Are Now Experiencing a Drop in Lung Cancer Rates

According to a report in Health Day, women are now experiencing a drop in rates of lung cancer. When cancer becomes disabling, then you could qualify to receive long-term disability benefits.

While men have already seen a decrease in the rates of lung cancer, until recently it hasn't been the same for women; however, a new government report shows that new cases have fallen on average by 2.2% per year for females, between the years 2006 and 2008.

Between the years 1999 and 2008, women have seen a decrease in these rates from the following states:

  • California;
  • Florida;
  • Nevada;
  • Oregon;
  • Texas; and
  • Washington.

In 24 other states, the rates have remained the same and in 14 states, they've increased. In general, there's a slow decline but some believe it's not enough. Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer, so there needs to be more effort to address this issue, according to the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The authors of this government report also indicated that those states which saw the biggest declines were also the ones that had measures in place such as increased prices for tobacco products, smoke-free policies, and increased resources to help people quit.

If you need assistance in applying for disability benefits or appealing a claim that has been denied, you should speak with a Fort Lauderdale long-term disability lawyer.

Long-term disability benefits may be available to those who have purchased a disability plan from a private insurer or have coverage through an employer. Unfortunately, the insurers don't make it easy for the disabled to get access to the benefits they deserve.

When a severe medical condition makes it impossible for you to work and you've been denied your long-term disability benefits, an attorney from LaVan & Neidenberg, P.A. can help you to cut through the red tape and fight for your benefits, no matter where you live in the U.S!
