Wounded Warriors Project Teams With Golf Companies

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) has teamed with multiple golf retailers to help injured veterans and soldiers have the opportunity to play golf. Many veterans with disabilities are under the mistaken belief that their injuries prevent them from playing, but that is just no longer the case.

An article in World Golf points out that golf is one of those sports that allows for socialization without the direct, forced competition, which is a great environment for injured veterans. "Social rehabilitation" plays just as big of a role as physical rehabilitation for many veterans. This is because injuries can cause as much mental and emotional stress and anxiety as the physical injury itself. Golf helps that rehabilitative process by providing a "360-degree approach" to healing.

Golf is one of those sports where improvement is constant and immediately apparent. This serves as a great physical and emotional outlet. The WWP Physical Health & Wellness Program has recently began incorporating golf, and has had help from Golfsmith and COBRA PUMA, who provided clubs custom made for the veterans to accommodate their various injuries.
