Young Boy Driven to Deliver Christmas Wishes to U.S. Veterans

The Hannibal Courier-Post recently posted a story about Blake Lantz, a 10-year-old boy from Monroe City, who took it upon himself to send about 100 Christmas cards to veterans injuredfrom war.

Blake used his own money to buy the Christmas cards that he wanted to send to the wounded U.S. veterans. He was determined to complete the entire undertaking himself but found he needed supported from his legal guardian after he cut his tongue while attempting to lick an envelope.

Some of the signatures on the cards came from people Blake knew and some came from a lot of people he did not know. To make sure they were all signed, he started campaigning door-to-door. With more cards needing signatures, he went down to the local commodity center and recruited strangers.

According to Blake, he had no problem finding enough people to sign the cards.
Some people he encountered had been through the military while others had relatives serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan War.

In the end, Blake was able to complete 83 Christmas cards to send off to the injured veterans at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital just in time for Christmas.
