A: The majority of veterans receive their disability compensation via direct deposit into their bank or credit union account like a checking or savings account. If you do not have an account with a bank or credit union, you can choose to receive your payment in the mail in the form of a check. In certain areas, you may be able to open a federally insured Electronic Transfer Account, which can cost about $3 a month, that provides you with a monthly statement and gives you the ability to make cash withdrawls.
To choose your payment method, contact the VA at 1-877-838-2778. Their office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:50 PM, Central Standard Time.
