What evidence is used to determine if I am disabled?

A: The SSA uses a 5-step process to determine if you are disabled. The Disability Determination Services (DDS) looks at whether or not:

1. You are engaged in Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA)

2. You suffer from any severe impairments

3. Your impairment(s) meets a "listing"

4. Your impairment(s) affects your ability to perform your past job

5. Your impairment(s) prevent you from performing any job available in the Nation
