Patello-femoral Pain Syndrome/Runner's Knee

Chondromalacia Patella (abbreviation CMP and also referred to as Patello-femoral Pain Syndrome or Runner's Knee) is a term for a broad and dissimilar group of medical conditions that can cause pain at the front of the knee.

It frequently appears in young adults, especially those who play soccer or tennis, cycle, row, dance ballet, or run track. Snowboarders are particularly prone to this injury, especially those specializing in jumps where the knees are under great strain. CMP may appear after a severe injury to the patella or from constant friction between the patella and the groove in the femur through which it passes during motion of the knee.
