The Social Security Administration may provide Social Security disability benefits if you suffer from a condition related to the cardiovascular system. Cardiovascular impairments are disorders that involve the heart or circulatory system, whether they were acquired disorders or are congenital.
Cardiovascular impairment must result from one or more of 4 consequences of heart disease or because of disorders of the veins or arteries. A disability attorney can help you determine if your condition is eligible for Social Security disability benefits.
Category of Impairments - Cardiovascular System
The Listing of Impairments for the cardiovascular system is as follows:
You may qualify for Social Security disability benefits if you suffer from any of these conditions. A claimant must meet each listing's specification of criteria in order to be eligible to receive disability benefits.
Substantial Gainful Activity
In addition to meeting the criteria, a claimant must be unable to engage in Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) in order to be eligible for disability benefits.
Your monthly income will determine if you are able to engage in SGA. If you are earning more than the specified monthly amount, which is your "net of impairment-related work expenses," you are considered to be engaging in SGA. A claimant would then be disqualified from disability benefits.
For the year 2010, the current monthly amounts are as follows: $1,000 if you are not blind and $1,640 if you are statutorily blind. Those who are not blind are given a lower amount, as specified by Federal regulations. Generally, these amounts will increase when the national average wage index increases.
If you are not blind these amounts do apply to Social Security Income (SSI). If you are blind, they do not apply.
Trial Work Period
Claimants who receive disability benefits can go through a trial work period where an attempt is made to return to work. This is an incentive that Social Security Administration provides so a beneficiary can collect both their disability benefits and their earnings.
If you or someone you love suffers from a disorder related to the cardiovascular system, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits.
