References to Assist Disabled Persons Find Employment

After becoming a member of the disabled community there will be many new challenges to face. One such challenge is finding a fulfilling job. Many people find themselves stuck in a no win situation- they have been injured and would love to continue to work but cannot find a job that accommodates their special needs. There are resources available to those who would like to find and keep a job.

The following list of resources is intended to help you begin your search for employment in Florida.

  • 1. The Veterans Workforce Program is designed to help veterans find gainful employment both within Florida and nationwide. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialists and Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVER) work to match veterans with jobs in their area. In addition, they work as advocates for disabled veterans, ensuring that jobs are available that suit each veteran's unique abilities.   • 2. The Able Trust, also called the Florida Governor's Alliance for the Empowerment of Citizens with Disabilities is in place to help Floridians with disabilities find gainful employment. Through fundraising, grant programs, education and public awareness The Able Trust helps over 2,000 disabled citizens enter the workplace each year.   • 3. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is an employment program assistant program that assists Floridians with even the most severe disabilities.
