Elimination Period

The period of time you must wait, measured from the first day of an insured's disability, before disability benefits become payable. Sometimes referred to as the ‘waiting period', elimination periods typically vary from 30 to 180 days, and also vary in the degree to which they may be interrupted by returns to work. In many policies, the elimination period can be satisfied by partial or residual disability as well as total disability.
