The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) was created as part of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services at the US Department of Education. Their mission statement includes the following goals and ideas:
- Generate new knowledge and promote its effective use
- Improve the abilities of people with disabilities
- Expand society's capacity to provide full opportunities and accommodations for its citizens with disabilities
