Stand Down | National Coalition for Homeless Veterans

What started out as a way for soldiers In Vietnam to relax and get needed medical attention has turned into a unique and much needed event that helps homeless veterans nationwide. Stand Down is funded with a grant through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and is run by volunteers, many of them veterans themselves.

All Stand Downs are now led by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. According to their facts and media page the VA estimates that there are 131,000 homeless veterans on any given night. One third of the homeless population in the United States is veterans. The NCHV strives to, "end homelessness among veterans by shaping public policy, promoting collaboration and building the capacity of service providers."
