Wheelchairs for Warriors
The Wheelchairs for Warriors Program was founded in 2008 by GySgt Marc Reed of the United States Marine Corps. Reed wanted to do his part in supporting his fellow service men and women and knew he had a passion for running. By combining the two he came up with the service organization Wheelchairs for Warriors. Wheelchairs for Warriors, "assists severely disabled veterans with the opportunity to participate in the journey of a marathon with the assistance of a willing runner or runners to push them through the event."
For the second year in a row the organization has chosen a veteran to participate in a marathon. Reed and other community volunteers push the veterans the length of the race. The wheelchair used by the athletes is a custom chair designed and manufactured by Colours Wheelchairs. A special push bar has been fabricated for the event. After the marathon is over the wheelchair is donated to the veteran and his family.
The donated wheelchairs are made possible by individual contributions and community sponsorships.

- U.S. Navy Veteran Michael Kuhn of Ocala, Florida (2009)- Kuhn, with the help of Reed, finished the marathon in 4 hours and 26 minutes.
- USMC Veteran CPL Patrick Webster (2010) - Webster will participate in this year's marathon on February 28th. The Marine will be assisted by Reed and Dr. Juli Goldstein, 2009 Miss Florida.
