Aromatase Inhibitor Therapy Recommended for Breast Cancer

There are a number of treatment options available for those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. There are more invasive types of treatment such as surgery and radiation, and then there are less invasive methods used such as drugs or hormone therapy.
Aromatase inhibitor therapy is a hormone therapy that is being recommended by the American Society of Clinical Oncology for women who have breast cancer. They are recommending this therapy to all postmenopausal women who have hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.
As opposed to tamoxifen, which is another hormone therapy, aromatase inhibitors provide greater disease-free survival. It is recommended that this hormone therapy is done for no longer than 5 years. Since there are specific guidelines for taking hormone therapy, a medical professional should be consulted with.
Any type of hormone therapy that is taken can lead to side effects, so this should also be discussed with a medical professional ahead of time. Depending on the type of cancer and how far it has progressed will determine the best type of treatment plan.
