Florida veterans suffering from epilepsy will benefit from a $10,000 grant given to the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida. The Foundation helps the 360,000 Florida residents suffering from the disorder. The grant will allow the non-profit to reach out to service men and women who have suffered brain injuries.
Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can lead to epilepsy and epileptic seizures. Veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are particularly susceptible to these types of injuries. Hopefully the outreach program will help veterans with epilepsy learn more about managing the disorder. Karen Basha Egozi, chief executive officer of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, is looking forward to helping Florida's veterans.
"We're very proud to be able to serve our vets here in Florida and help them understand the signs and risks of epilepsy."
The program the grant will fund is called the "Veterans Outreach Program". The hope is that the program will help the tens of thousands of military families living in the state. Interactive lectures, booklets and discussions will begin taking place in South Florida soon.
The Foundation will be working closely with the VA, Reserve and National Guard.
The staff and attorneys at LaVan & Neidenberg hope that the grant reaches out to and helps disabled veterans across Florida.
