Memorial Day Ceremony in Florida Honors Veterans

Memorial Day at the South Florida National Cemetery offered a solemn remembrance of those who have lost their lives while serving their country.  The cemetery holds more than 3,100 veterans and was the site of an inspirational yet somber tribute.

Over 1,000 veterans, their family members and friends gathered to remember the fallen soldiers, sailors and Marines who have died in the name of their country.  The attendees included U.S. Rep. Ron Klein who spoke to those gathered in remembrance.  Klein addressed not only the need to remember those who have perished, but stressed the importance of supporting the 2 million new veterans created by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"It's a necessity to make sure when these men and women come home, they get the mental and physical services to support them and their families for the rest of their lives."

Another speaker was Capt. Benjamin Lubin, a Marine who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Capt. Lubin asked that Americans strive to honor the men and women of the armed forces by becoming, "informed and active citizens to understand the wars we are fighting."
